Jing'an, one of the major districts of Shanghai, has made great contribution to both Shanghai's construction and development. What to see in Jing'an
Nanjing West Road, the west part of the "First Commercial Street of China"---Nanjing Road, is regarderd as the"golden line" of Jing'an District. Here gathers hundreds of fashion shops, franchised stores, attracting people throughout the world.
While Jing'an temple, one of the three most ancient religious sites in Shanghai, was first built in 247 AD. It enjoyed prosperity at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1912, it was made the headquarter of the first nation-wide Buddhist association. The temple is currently under further renovation and expansion, but it is still open to the public and you can see a lot of delicate Buddha statues and embossments.
Transportation
Moreover, Jing'an has very advanced transportation facilities with both Nanjing-Shanghai and Shanghai-Hangzhou railways passing through. Aiming to ease the traffic pressure, Shanghai Metro Line 2 has been built and passed its test operation. The extension project of Metro Line 2 began on July 2007 and was planned to commence the test operation before the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, as many new stations would be available at that time.
